On the Western Sky

Cloak of cloud
Morphs into a storm dementor
Cauliflowered top and rising fast
Thunderously blackened
Drawn battle of the gods
Ominously stirred
Fringed edges sweep the skyline
Swallowing the view
In its fury
Into a black and white world.

      1. May was a washout here too, but it was the flash frost in April that killed the walnut blossom and the first of the figs. There won’t be fruit from either this year, nor the plums. Higher up the valley though, there was no frost damage at all.

      2. All our trees lost their first leaves and looked dead until regrowth last week – we had late frost too which took runner Beans and sweet peas which have also regrown but are way behind . Frost in May is almost unknown in south west England . Some years we get no frost at all.
